Shelter and Fish

In Lakes

All fish need shelter. Shelter provides protection from predators such as birds and bears. Common types of shelter include beaver dams and lodges, sunken logs, large rocks and boulders. If you can find one of these in your fishing hole, you are bound to find fish.

In Streams and Rivers

Shelter in rivers and steams also include deep pools and long stretches of ruffles. There are several places large fish can hide in a stream. They are:

  • under an object such as a overhanging bank or snag
  • in a deep pool
  • in riffled areas

Trying these areas first will often provide better results in your fishing endeavours.
